One of the largest fritted glass canopies in New Zealand creates an outdoor living room.
Our Auckland Projects & Interiors team refurbished the main entrance at Sylvia Park shopping centre, installing a large steel canopy with fritted glass and a steel colonnade along the front of the entrance to create a sheltered outdoor dining, event and gathering space.
With the restaurants lining the lane open throughout and the only access to the site via a main road which needed to stay open 24/7, our team used meticulous planning and staging to minimise disruption. We completed much of the work overnight, replacing the moveable hoardings that screened the site in time for the centre to open in the morning. Weekly catchups with the client ensured an open flow of information.
We developed a methodology to carefully remove the intricate timber-lattice pod structure at the entrance to the lane at the start of the project and stored it at our yard, replacing it once we had re-paved the entire area. We also slashed the waste generated during construction by sending the original concrete slab to be crushed for re-use.
The final touch was a network of fairy lights that transforms the area at night, fully realising the client’s vision of an “outdoor living room” for the growing community who work, live and shop at Sylvia Park.
